Men's Ministry

Welcome to Men's Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church |
Men’s ministry is an inter-generational faith-based network of men who enjoy fellowship, gain spiritual education, and give back to the Church through various projects. As you may know, men’s ministry has been an important part of Grace’s history and we are resurrecting it as part of the 125th Anniversary Celebrations. Our goal is to connect with all men over age 18.

The Mission of Men's Ministry |
To motivate, educate and gather together a faith-based network of men, whose life is centered on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
|
| |
The Vision of Men's Ministry |
We are all fishermen. Like the 12 apostles who where literal fishermen and later Fishers of Men, we want our ministry to follow Christ’s instructions (Mathew 4:18 – 22), “Follow Me and I will make you Fishers of Men”.

The Objective of our Men's Ministry |
- To support and equip each other for faithful living in our homes, workplaces and in the world.
- To reach out and offer Christian fellowship to other men outside of the church.
|
Men's Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church is broken out into four different areas. Each one of our outings and events will be fit into one of these areas; below you will find a list of our upcoming events.
- Fellowship Activities, including gathering for a meal, basketball, golf, bowling, fishing, etc.
- Project Activities, including bush removal, garage clean up, etc.
- Outing Activities, including gathering for a meal, special event, etc.
- Spiritual Activities, including men's Bible studies, small groups, retreats, etc.
The leadership of this ministry is developing. Sevreal men have already offered their time and vision to be primary leaders to get us moving. Please share your ideas with us. If this ministry is going to really take off, we will need your ideas, energy and participation. A planning meeting will be announced later in the summer to imagine the next steps together. We encourage you to attend. |

Our Current Men's Ministry Events |
Work Parties – Well, it is no actual party, the men of Grace Lutheran shall come together to accomplish projects otherwise needing to be outsourced to a 3rd party vendor. The goal of this aspect of our ministry is to offset expenses incurred by Grace Lutheran Church and help staff with items that need to be accomplished. Examples are the bush removal, garage cleaning, etc.
Golf Outings, Basketball and Bowling – Proof that miracles still happen and the true power of prayer, Lutherans can be athletic. With golf in the summer and both bowling and basketball in the winter, we look forward to fellowship with one another outside of the traditional church setting.
Table Talks – We are Lutherans. Like Martin Luther, our table talks will be held at a pub on the 4th Thursday of every month. The topic of the month will be based on comments from Luther’s own table talks. A repeat of the topic will be on the 4thSaturday morning during breakfast at Grace. We hope these two different settings for faith conversation will serve the needs of different men.
Church Picnic – For fun and fellowship, we will host a “Bags” tournament at the GLC picnic this year. A bracket sign-up will be constructed and placed in fellowship hall or you may sign up the day of the picnic. In the true spirit of fishermen, each participant will receive a coupon for a free filet of fish sandwich and the winners will receive a Billy Bass (singing fish) that they can hang on their wall.
Weekly Bible Study and Breakfast in the Fall – In September we will begin a weekly study of the Biblical book of Jonah, the biggest fish tale in the Bible. We will focus on God’s personal call to each of us and the challenge of loving our enemies. The study is followed by breakfast in downtown LaGrange. This study is well-established and attended by some of the wisest men of Grace.
Winter Retreat – There is a plan to conduct a men’s retreat in February of 2012. The retreat will be held at the Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center, including winter sports, tall tales and faith-building fellowship. It will begin on Friday (with an optional overnight) and continue through Saturday.
