Stephen Ministry

“Love One Another As I have Loved You"

Stephen Ministry has been a part of caring ministry at Grace Lutheran Church since 1990. It brings together men and women who are trained to offer ongoing care and support with persons experiencing a wide variety of personal difficulties such as health issues, unemployment, family stress, divorce, grief, or any other troubling personal health or life event. Stephen Ministers, in one-on-one relationships, help persons cope with their situations through confidential, focused listening, acceptance, and spiritual support. They walk with their “care receivers” to greater healing.

Current Stephen Leaders are Dave Johnson, Mary Vann and Marian Lynch. Pastor Susan Gerow, our Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care, works with these leaders who, together, make referrals, and provide supervision, continuing education, and support.

You may call any of these leaders or the church office at 708-352-0730 (x211 is Pastor Gerow) for more information, or to request a Stephen Minister. All requests are confidential. Every effort will be made to honor your request, and to provide you with the care you need.

You may feel called to this ministry and want to be trained as a Stephen Minister yourself. Thank you! There is an ongoing need for those who can serve others in this unique way. Please contact one of the Leaders for further conversation and to inquire about training classes.
