What is LOGOS?
Wednesday, 5:00 p.m.-7:15 p.m. Beginning Oct 6, 2010
The LOGOS weekly ministry gives us an opportunity to help our youth make sense of their modern world in the context of their identity as Christians. This program is designed to give children an outlet for their talents and spiritual gifts as well as guiding their growth in faith. Once a week for twenty-four weeks during the school year, we teach the Word to youth, establishing relationships and attitudes they do not necessarily find elsewhere in their daily lives.
All children and youth from preschool through high school are encouraged to participate in this dynamic program. Weekly sessions include periods for Bible Study, Worship Skills, Choir, Recreation, and a Family Style Dinner Hour. Bible study is the heart of LOGOS (Logos from the Greek, meaning Word). We take time to read and reflect to better understand how the word applies to our lives. The Worship Skills portion of the evening prepares youth for leadership in Worship through participation in the Childrens’ vocal and hand bell choirs. Musikgarten, music and movement for preschoolers, is also available. Recreation time allows for some fun and creative outlet with games, social time and craft. Building friendships and trust in a faith community is one of the most important parts of LOGOS. The family dinner hour provides time to share a meal, and enjoy the company of our church family.
Dozens of adult volunteers give their time, lead, play, teach, nurture and care for the youth who participate. In LOGOS, we celebrate positive relationships through the model of Jesus Christ. Everyone can be a part of LOGOS! Information and registration forms are on the nametag tables, in the church office, on the church web site or contact Alice Oscarson, Family Ministry Coordinator, familyministry@gracelutheran-lg.org. There will be no meetings on holidays.

Faith and Film
Jesus used stories to open the imagination of his followers. Likewise, films help us to see the Biblical concepts of love, forgiveness and service played out in everyday life. This fellowship group meets from 6 - 9 p.m.on the 3rd Sunday of the month. A potluck meal begins the evening, followed by the film and conversation. Hosted by a Grace Pastor.

Faith Development (Confirmation)
Confirmation study at Grace is called “Faith Development.” The name is meant to imply that one’s growth is more than a two-year study process; “growing in grace” is life-long process which begins from baptism and continues throughout life. The special two years of confirmation studies are designed for 7th and 8th graders. Emphasis is given to Luther’s catechism which covers the Ten Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, The Sacrament of Baptism, The Sacrament of the Altar (The Lord’s Supper), and The Apostles’ Creed. Upon completion of the study as well as participation in service projects, students are confirmed in September at the beginning of the 9th grade.
